HOW THE GARCIA GIRLS SPENT THEIR SUMMER

2008 - 35mm - 127min
ELIZABETH PEÑA - AMERICA FERRERA - STEVEN BAUER
Director - GEORGINA GARCIA RIEDEL

Over the course of a summer, three generations of women in a Mexican American family experience sexual awakenings. Garcia family matriarch Doña Genoveva (Lucy Gallardo) decides to buy a car that she doesn't know how to drive. When she accepts gardener Don Pedro's (Jorge Cevera, Jr.) offer to teach her, sparks begin to fly.

Her daughter Lolita (Elizabeth Peña “Transamerica”, “The Incredibles”, “Jacob’s Ladder”) seems to have hit a dry spell until things start to sizzle at the butcher shop where she works. Meanwhile, Lolita's teenage daughter Blanca (Golden Globe Winner, America Ferrera “Ugly Betty”) engineers an awakening all her own. It is as though the heat wave has thawed everyone's defenses and jumpstarted a sexual revolution.
Amusing, touching and thoroughly enjoyable.
